My name is Cat Chiquillo. I am married to a wonderful man and have 4 amazing kids. My family has shown me the importance of following my dreams, work hard and never give up. I was born and raised in Colombia. Since I was a child, I have been in love with art, particularly the use of clay.
In 2000, I moved to Houston. I studied at the University of Houston where I enrolled to take sculpture and ceramic classes, that I enjoyed immensely. I graduated “Summa Cum Laude” with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2003.
I took a big break from studying Art while I was raising my 4 kids. But art has always been part of my life and the legacy that I intend to leave for my children!
In the Fall of 2017, I started ceramic classes again at the Glassell Studio School in Houston. Most of my work there was focused on wheel throwing. I was also able to practice hand building techniques . Later in the year, one of my pieces was chosen to be part of the end of the year student exhibition. At Glassell I started to realize how working with clay is so complex and full of possibilities!
In September of 2018, my husband accepted a new job and we moved our family to Maryland. Once we were settled in, I registered for Ceramic classes at the Frederick Clay Studio.
In the Fall of 2019, I achieved my dream of going back to school and pursue a Master of Arts in Ceramics at Hood College in Frederick, MD. I am working towards perfecting my wheel throwing skills, hand building, glazing and firing techniques. I strive to use what I learn in creating my pieces!
I am passionate about Art. I have had to make choices about my time for my family, and I am finally at a stage where I am making a full commitment to Ceramics and loving every day of it. Welcome to my site where I can share that passion with you!
